Greetings from the Hoffmans,
We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to share some updates about what God is doing in our lives and to reach out for you to walk this journey with us. Thank you for your support and prayer during our first year married. (It’s been AWESOME!)![]() |
| We went to Smithfield, VA (the home of the ham and bacon phenomenon) for my birthday on a fantastic Groupon getaway. |
Brittany is excited that she has the opportunity to go to Rwanda for 7 weeks this summer. The first two weeks she will be the team leader for 16 Regent students who will be working with local organizations on a variety of projects. Additionally, her office has a Business Development Center there, so when the students leave, she will train the young and struggling office staff and, most excitingly, take her camera all over the country to capture the stories of the graduates. Be looking for some incredible stories to come out on Facebook!
After some skilled networking, Kevin got a legal internship with International Justice Mission in their Rwandan Field Office. International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators, and aftercare pro-fessionals work with local officials to secure immediate victim res-cue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems - police, courts and laws - effectively protect the poor. This is an absolute dream job for Kevin as he will be practicing human rights law in a country that has been actively rebuilding ever since the 1994 genocide. He will be doing research, writing, and working with a Rwandan attorney on case in-take, helping to assess potential cases. IJM has been on Kevin’s top list of possible career paths and this internship could not be a better fit.
To add blessing upon blessing, Kevin was awarded a $5,000 fellowship to help cover some of the expenses associated with the Rwandan internship. As part of Kevin’s financial aid package for law school, he received a full scholarship to take 6 credits on International Human Rights Law in Strasbourg, France, which will be the second half of the summer. This summer will be a brand new experience in what it would be like to practice international human rights law for our family.
The Lord has truly orchestrated our steps this summer and we are trusting Him completely to provide for our every need. We so appreciate your love and support, and in particular there are two areas of need in our lives right now:
1. Please pray with us! In particular - safety and ease in travel, that God would set our appointments before we get there, that He would provide financially, spiritually, and socially, and that our marriage will grow and flourish during this incredible op-portunity! Throughout the summer, we will be sharing specific prayer needs on our blog, as well.
2. Even with the fellowship, this internship is dipping into our student loan reserves quite a bit. My job will be able to cover most of our living expenses in Rwanda and our ongoing expenses at home in Virginia, but we will still be about $5,000 under what the summer will cost. We took out a student loan this year with the hope that it would serve as our emergency fund and we’d be able to pay it back in full at the end of school. We are really hoping not to take out an-other student loan in the fall. If God lays it on your heart to help support us financially, we would be immensely grateful! Any gifts should be mailed to our address below and, if possible, arrive by May 1 to ensure delivery. Anything we receive above our expenses, we will donate to International Justice Mission.
Finally, we have a blog! You can find our blog at loveincorruptable.blogspot.com. (Obviously... you're here!) We invite you to join us on this great adventure as we follow God’s plans halfway across the world. Thanks again for your support and love. As always, we’d love to hear from you, especially this summer as we will be so very far from home!
With much love,
Kevin & Brittany Hoffman
