(Allow me to begin by apologizing for not blogging the way I
should have. The students that were here for 2 weeks can tell you what our days
were like. I will do my very best from here forward to stay current and share
some exciting things that happened over the last two weeks, bit by bit.)
I woke up this morning just a little bit homesick. The class
is gone now and Kevin is working full time so I’m on my own quite a bit now. I
have colleagues, contacts, and co-workers, but few friends as of yet. Being
here is making me so very grateful for the wonderful friends we’ve made in
Virginia Beach. I’m missing my ladies, and game nights, and Bible studies.
I had a dream last night that I was visiting Thornley
Chapel. It helped me realize that the summer programs in the Grove should be
starting in a few weeks, and for the first time in my entire life, I won’t be
there. Just left me a little homesick I suppose.
This post hasn’t necessarily been the cheeriest thing yet,
so let me share a funny story to lighten it up:
Last week we went on a safari with the class to Akagera
National Park. It was breathtaking! We stayed in the most beautiful lodge in
the game park and soaked up the incredible things God created. There were even
baboons at our hotel! I kid you not. They just wandered around the hotel looking
for food. They’d hang out often in the parking lot.
The second day we were there, the students were getting very
friendly with the baboons and one student in particular, wanted to get closer
so that she could get good pictures of the baboon and it’s baby. The next thing
she knows a baboon comes from a different direction and steals her Coach purse.
I told her that the baboon’s wife probably just has very expensive taste. She
screamed and the baboon dropped the purse. Eventually however, she got cornered
by two baboons and had to throw a cookie at each one to get out of a rather
harrowing experience.
It was hilarious.
Here are some pictures to help you picture the hilariosity
of this situation.
I will try to write more later today. I have a number of blog
posts started from the last two weeks, but none are finished. I’ll share more
stories soon!
Love,
Brittany
